Pens, highlighters & paper
- Quick-dry fine-tip gel pens · Amazon ↗
Look for 0.38–0.5 mm tips and quick-drying ink, so small planner boxes stay neat and left-handed writers smudge less.
- Mild pastel highlighters · Amazon ↗
Soft colors color-code a week without hiding the writing underneath. A chisel tip draws both thin and wide lines.
- Erasable gel pens · Amazon ↗
For people who rewrite their plans. Most use heat-sensitive ink that can fade in a hot car, so they suit plans better than permanent records.
- Heavyweight printer paper · Amazon ↗
If they print their own pages, 32 lb (120 gsm) paper helps stop gel pens showing through double-sided pages.
Planner accessories
- Washi tape set · Amazon ↗
Decorates a spread, marks this week or holds a ticket in place, and lifts off most paper without tearing.
- Sticky tabs and transparent sticky notes · Amazon ↗
Tabs mark months and sections. Transparent notes let them plan on top of a page without writing on it.
- Functional planner stickers · Amazon ↗
Checklists, appointment and reminder icons are quicker than drawing the same symbols every week.
- Adhesive pen loops · Amazon ↗
Stick one to the planner's back cover so a favorite pen never goes missing.
For the desk and the year ahead
- Desk organizer · Amazon ↗
A tray with compartments for pens, sticky notes and clips keeps planning supplies from taking over the table.
- Discbound planner kit · Amazon ↗
Discs and a matching punch let them add, remove and reorder pages, which suits undated printables.
- Magnetic dry-erase calendar · Amazon ↗
A whole month on the fridge for family schedules. Wipe it clean and start again next month.
- Label maker · Amazon ↗
For organizers who label everything. Check which tape cassettes it takes and whether refills are easy to find.
Digital planning
- Stylus with palm rejection · Amazon ↗
Lets them rest a hand on the screen while writing in a digital planner. Check that it works with their exact tablet model.
- Matte paper-feel screen protector · Amazon ↗
Adds a little friction, so writing on a tablet feels closer to pen on paper, and cuts glare.
- Adjustable tablet stand · Amazon ↗
Holds the tablet at a comfortable angle for planning at a desk or on the kitchen counter.

Gift guide FAQ
What do you get someone who loves planners?
Things they use up or upgrade: good pens and highlighters, washi tape and sticky tabs, heavier paper if they print their own pages, and next year's planner. Planner layouts are personal, so if you're not sure which one they like, pens and accessories are the safer choice.
Is a 2027 planner a good Christmas gift?
The timing is ideal: Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, 2026, and a dated 2027 planner starts 7 days later on January 1, 2027. If they already have one, an undated planner or a set of accessories avoids a duplicate.
What paper weight is best for printing planner pages?
24 lb (90 gsm) paper for pages printed on one side, and 28 to 32 lb (105–120 gsm) for double-sided pages or gel pens. Our guide to planner paper converts every US weight.
